Laser Hair Removal
At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we offer state of the art laser technology to remove unwanted hair. Our Long Pulsed 810 nm Diode Laser is suitable for most skin types. The treatment is quick, painless and effective. After 4-5 treatments, you should expect about 65% reduction of your hair in the treated area. Treatment time can vary from 15 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the size of the area, and are spaced out once per month.
Recovery Time: None—though there may be mild redness and swelling


Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is a very effective procedure for dramatically removing sun damaged skin, reducing wrinkles and tightening facial skin. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we use a dual mode Erbium:Yag laser which takes advantage of the gentleness of the Erbium pulses but also allows us to precisely dial in the amount of heat necessary to effectively remove wrinkles. As with the carbon dioxide laser, there is redness after the procedure. However, with our laser, this "sunburn" fades much quicker.
Recovery Time: Immediate recovery period 7-10 days; Redness lasts 2-3 months.


Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a popular, minimally invasive procedure that removes some sun damage and polishes the skin. It may also be effective for reducing the appearance of some acne scars as well as stretch marks. A session lasts approximately 20 minutes, usually requiring 6 treatments on a biweekly basis.
Recovery Time: None—though there may be mild redness and swelling


Chemical Peels
Because of the California sun, our skin is much more susceptible to damage and aging. This results in spots and wrinkles. Chemical peels, depending on the type and strength will reduce this sun damage. It is an outpatient procedure, and may require several visits. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we perform glycolic acid peels and TCA peels.
Recovery Time: Glycolic Acid peels—none. TCA peels (depending on strength) 2 days-1 week.


Acne Scar Revision
At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we understand the psychological impact of acne scars. Fortunately, there are a number of treatments that can be used to reduce the appearance of these scars. Usually, a combination of laser, microdermabrasion, collagen, and procedures known as punch grafting and subsicion are used to effectively diminish these scars.
Recovery Time: None to 1 week.


Laser Birthmark Removal
Birthmarks whether blood vessel in nature such as hemangiomas or portwine stains, or because of pigment such as Nevus of Ota and Ito, can be disfiguring. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we have lasers that can treat these conditions. Depending on patient age, these treatments are either performed under local anesthesia or sedation. Birthmarks usually require several treatments performed on a monthly or bimonthly basis. They may require up to a year or more of treatment. Treatment of congenital birthmarks are covered by Insurance as per California state law.
Recovery Time: For hemangiomas and portwine stains, there will often be bruising that will usually resolve in 2-5 days. For other birthmarks, there may be crusting and scabbing for 2-3 days following treatment.


Laser Tattoo Removal
While tattoos are easy to put in the skin, they can often be challenging to remove depending on the color. Black is the easiest color to remove while green tends to be the most difficult. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we have lasers that will comfortably remove tattoos using either a local topical anesthetic or injection. Depending on the complexity of the tattoo, it may require anywhere from three to ten treatments. Tattoos are most effectively treated every 4-6 weeks.
Recovery Time: There will be crusting and scabbing for 2- 5 days for most tattoos

Facial Spider Vein Removal
Spider veins on the cheeks and around the nose can be very annoying. They tend to increase with age. Fortunately, they are easy to remove with only minimal discomfort. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we have three different lasers to treat spider veins depending on their size and location. It may require 1-3 treatments. Removal of these veins doesn’t prevent other spider veins from appearing.
Recovery Time: None to 2-3 days.
